Joe Davy

Joe Davy is a high craft artisan residing in Dunedin, New Zealand. A master in his contemporary field, Joe produces the highest quality Mokume Gane of his generation. Having been self taught, what started as a challenge in ability, unfolded into a love affair of sculptured elegance and functional design for the discerning client choosing beauty for future generations.

Mokume Gane translates into wood grained metail, and as a technique was developed by Denbei Shoami, a 17th century Japanese swordsmith, at a time when swords were being seen as more a symbol of status and there was a call for more elaborate and decorative sword furniture to reflect this.
